Benefits of Focused Breath

This week, I had the opportunity to participate in the Summer Institute for Digital Literacy, an incredible professional development opportunity to study, explore and create with teachers, university faculty, librarians, and civil society leaders from around the world. The institute included a hands-on learning 'capstone' project that I developed with two colleagues over the course of the week. We created a lesson plan and digital products that provide an overview of the relationship between digital wellness, election campaign products, and individual identity.

As part of our project, I developed a three-minute video providing simple, guided breathing exercises that can be done literally at any time of day. These can be done seated or standing. Once you get a hang of the first exercise, it's a great one to do while walking, when in a busy line, or while waiting on the phone when on hold. If you happen to be going through medical treatment, it's also a great one to do when waiting at the doctor's office.

The benefits of focused breathing are vast - from helping with concentration and focus, eliciting a sense of calm, and moving into the 'rest and digest' mode. Even a few minutes of such breathwork is enough for me to reset when in the middle of a busy work day, or to help transition from doing one type of activity to another. Give this video a try - I hope it works for you!
