5th visit to Duke (Durham, North Carolina)
Today is the five-month anniversary of my brain surgery, and coincidentally marks my fifth trip to North Carolina / Duke University Cancer Center since March. I walked into these doors a little over five months ago for the first time into a whole new world of experiences that have changed my life and the lives of those close to me. And while not all of it has been easy or pleasant, I've had the chance to connect and reconnect to family and friends over these past five months in meaningful and very beautiful ways. I have been reminded time and time again of the goodness, kindness, and generosity in so many people around the globe.
My MRI was at 8:00 p.m. last night. We decided to walk from downtown Durham to get some steps in. The radiology department was completely empty, and everything this time was astonishingly smooth. The MRI technician got the IV on the first try. I think I've gotten used to the rave-like sounds that hit different parts of your body for 20-ish minutes at different frequencies. I asked for classical music to listen to this time - layered over the MRI machine noises, and in between, my mantra meditation practice. 45 minutes from start to finish. Maybe the trick is to do these in the evenings!
This morning we met with my medical team to go over MRI results and have a general check-in. What a phenomenal center and dedicated group of professionals!
This one was a fast trip, and luckily, a safe return today given the frightful weather along the way. The biggest sigh of relief is that the MRI was fine, with no signs of tumor progression. May the reports stay this way for many many years ahead!
Thank you team Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center!
